Agenda

  • Bilingual GMO Teach-in
We are still looking for the right film to show.  The World According To Monsanto has been translated into Spanish and is available on Youtube.  It is unknown if there are subtitles in English on that version or how to buy a copy of that film.  Someone has contacted the filmmaker with those questions.  Someone else will also look into the possibilities with showing this film in Spanish with English subtitles.  Other possible films that meet our criteria are also being looked into.
To be ready for this teach-in we need to:
    • have our website partially translated into Spanish.
    • have GMO literature in Spanish.
    • have a bilingual emcee.
    • find a co-sponsoring group from the bilingual community.

We are not ready to put on this teach-in but it is a priority.  We are actively working on creating this teach-in.

  • GMO OMG Film Showing
We have a copy of this film.

We discussed location options, free versus request for suggested donation (ie. $5), fundraising/plant sales, best locations for the biggest numbers, suitable sites.

    Locations discussed:
Sebastopol Grange, Environmental Center, PJC, UU.

    Considerations:
We reached unanimous consensus that the UU Social Hall is the best choice of the options considered.
Someone raised a concern based on an OSC agreement that we will have plant sales to fund raise at four teach-ins per year and have teach-ins at the UU when we would not be selling plants in the winter months.  We agreed to have this event at the UU in a winter month such as November, February or March.  We tentatively agreed on early November to avoid being too close to the November holiday.
If the UU will allow us to add an event at the beginning of November and still meet on November 24 we will do that.

    Proposal with unanimous consensus:
GMO OMG film showing teach-in on Monday, Nov. 3rd in UUC,SR Social Hall.

    Current update:

We have scheduled our film showing at the UU on that date in addition to our regular GMO Campaign meeting on November 24th.

Meeting ended at 9:15 PM.
Next GMO Campaign meeting: Monday, September 22 at UU.
Next OSC meeting: Media & Publicity, Monday, September 1, Peace & Justice Center.
